Bacolod aims for longest barbecue grill
BACOLOD CITY -- Mayor Evelio Leonardia is confident that Bacolod will attain honor and added international recognition with the putting up of a 5 to 6 kilometers – the longest barbecue grill during the Manokan Country Inasal Festival.
That will break the record of Puerto Rico (pork barbecue) of .8 kilometers and Dagupan’s bangus grill measuring 3.8 kilometers during their recent “Bangus Festival”, he said. This, after meeting with chicken growers, who are partners with chicken inasal vendors in the development of the industry in the city.
This will be another first in the City of Bacolod, he said. Various chicken growers are expected to fully support this major event on the 19th of May – considered as the “growers-integrators day”. The entire 6-day Manokan Country Inasal Festival will be held in the Manokan Country and the vacant lot of SM Northwing.
The Special Committee headed by Councilor Alex Paglumotan announces Bacolod’s vying for the Guiness Book of World Record. The committee is targeting 1 whole chicken per foot or an estimated 18,000 chickens. This also means 800 to 1,000 sacks of charcoal, thousands of bamboo sticks in a race track set up of the barbecue grill, covering almost the entire major and arterial streets of the reclamation area. Thousands of volunteers are needed to man the chicken barbecue grilling and local and international media will do the coverage. Time element of the longest chicken inasal presentation will run from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Guest of Honor and Speaker is Senator Chiz Escudero who will also spearhead the awarding and recognition of all the major players in the event.
